Terms of service

Last updated July 6, 2026

These terms govern your use of Taper, including our website, waitlist, and coaching services. By joining the waitlist, enrolling in the pilot program, or using the service, you agree to these terms.

The service

Taper provides AI-assisted, human-supervised endurance coaching delivered by text message. Taper reads the recovery and training data you authorize us to access (for example, through your Whoop) and sends daily training recommendations, recovery alerts, and check-ins calibrated to your race goal and how you've actually recovered.

Pilot phase

Taper is currently in a pilot phase. During the pilot, coaching guidance is generated with AI and reviewed by a human before or alongside delivery; the service is not fully autonomous. The service, its features, and these terms may change as the pilot develops, and we may pause or discontinue the pilot at any time.

Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use Taper. By enrolling, you agree to provide accurate information about your health, training history, and race goals, and to keep it current. Guidance built on inaccurate data can be wrong in ways that matter.

Not medical advice

Taper is not a medical provider, and nothing in the service is medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Taper does not replace the advice of a physician, physical therapist, or other qualified professional. Consult a physician before beginning any endurance training program, and stop training and seek medical care for symptoms such as chest pain, dizziness, fainting, or unusual or persistent pain. If a Taper message ever conflicts with advice from your medical provider, follow your medical provider.

Your responsibilities

Endurance training carries inherent risk, including the risk of injury. Taper's recommendations are guidance, not instructions: you remain responsible for your own training decisions, for exercising your own judgment about how you feel, and for training within your abilities and your medical provider's advice. You are also responsible for maintaining the wearable device and phone service needed to receive and act on the service.

Text messaging terms

Message frequency varies with your plan and training schedule, typically one to a few messages per day for coaching participants. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP at any time to cancel messages. Reply HELP for help. See our privacy policy for how your information is handled.

No guarantees

Taper does not guarantee any athletic outcome, including race completion, performance improvement, qualification times, or injury prevention. Endurance sport doesn't work that way, and we won't pretend otherwise.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Taper and its founder are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for injury, loss, or damage arising from your training decisions or your use of or inability to use the service. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, or $100 if you have paid nothing. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

Intellectual property

The Taper name, marks, website, and coaching system are our property. You may not copy, resell, or redistribute the service or its content without permission.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service evolves. If a change materially affects your rights, we'll note it here and, if you're an active participant, tell you by text before it applies. Continued use after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, without regard to its conflict of laws principles.
